Tina Fey Returns to Philly for ‘Mean Girls’ Musical

Philly Entetainment News

Mean Girls is known as an iconic film of the 2000s as well as a timeless ‘chick flick’ that can make you laugh no matter how old you are. The film has had tremendous influence in the social culture of the United States, from makeup palettes to the annual honoring of October 3rd, the important day when Aaron Samuels asks Cady what day it is.

With the commercial success and its lasting impact in our social culture, it was only right for Mean Girls: The Musical to happen. The first show premiered on October 31, 2017 at the National Theatre in Washington D.C., and has since moved to the August Wilson Theatre on Broadway. Mean Girls: The Musical has received generally favorable reviews since its debut.

The mastermind behind the film, which was adapted into the musical, is none other than Upper Darby native Tina Fey, who wrote the screenplay. Fey was inspired by her own experiences as a teenager at Upper Darby High School in writing the film, stating, “I revisited high school behaviors of my own — futile, poisonous, bitter behaviors that served no purpose.”

Fey returned to Philly August 14 to celebrate the ‘Mean Girls’ musical as well as promote the touring of the show on Broadway with an onsale event at the Kimmel Center Balcony Bar. How cool!

Mean Girls: The Musical is running at the Academy of Music from November 19 to December 1, 2019.
